We got some wheels......so we headed on a road trip

A vacationing family from church lent us their car for a couple of weeks while they are away. It has been so incredibly great to have the freedom of a car (especially to avoid the smelly metro this time of year!) My mom, her neighbor Amanda, Alan and I headed south of Paris to a chateau called Vaux-le-Vicomte and then on to Fontainebleau. We enjoyed lunch, walking around town and sitting by a canal in the woods of Fontainebleau.

The ladies were cooling off by dipping their feet in the canal. I was too afraid that if I got down on the ground I wouldn't be able to get back up or else fall into the water!

La Tour de France

Alan and I got to watch the finish of the Tour de France on the Ave des Champs Elysees. We had to plant ourselves about 3 1/2 hours prior to the racers' arrival to get good seats! After arriving from the south and riding through Paris, they rode up and down the Champs Elysees 7 or 8 times to the finish line at the Place de la Concorde. Here's the leader wearing the yellow jersey.
He had a one minute five second lead going into the final stage, so he just had to stay with the rest of the pack to win the tour.

A shot of the peloton

Um, is he adjusting your brakes at 30+ miles an hour??
